3c Pigeon Blood Pink (64a). Original gum, lightly hinged, radiant color and outstanding centering for this challenging issue

EXTREMELY FINE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT PIGEON BLOOD PINK. WE RECORD ONLY SEVEN ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLES. THIS IS without question one of the finest — it is graded xf 90 by p.s.e

The 3c Pigeon Blood Pink is one of the rarest of all 1861-66 Issue shades in original-gum condition. Our unpublished census of original gum copies contains seven certified examples (not including the example in the following lot). We have offered four others since 1993, including an essentially sound example which is ex Whitman and Petersen (Sale 1234, lot 83) and one that is Extremely Fine with a faint vertical crease not noted on certificate. All others have faults or are off center.

With 2001 P.F. certificate. With 2000 and 2007 P.S.E. certificates (OGph; XF 90). This is the only graded example. Scott value $55,000.
