EXTREMELY FINE. ONE OF TWO GUIDE LINE PAIRS OF THE 5-CENT 1908 WITH SCHERMACK TYPE II PERFORATIONS REPORTED IN THE BELASCO BOOK. A MAJOR RARITY OF EARLY 20TH CENTURY PHILATELY.
The 5c Blue (315) with Schermack Type II perforations, produced at the request of collectors, is one of the rarest of all vending and affixing machine varieties. There is one ordinary pair in the Miller collection owned by The New York Public Library. The Belasco book (p. 23) reports two guide line pairs — we believe the other line pair is the one offered in Sale 28 of the Col. Green collection (Costales, 10/28-11/1/1946, lot 1307).
