EXTREMELY FINE AND FRESH ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 15-CENT E GRILL.
Although at least one block of four of the 15c E Grill has been split in recent years, few of the stamps harvested from broken blocks have the centering and well-preserved gum and paper of this example. As an indication of rarity, Scott Catalogue values Scott 91 at $4,500 without gum, and $12,500 with original gum.

3c Red, F. Grill, Printed on Both Sides (94d). With top selvage, back printed inverted in relation to the front, original gum, bright color, few short perforations at bottom
FINE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED UNUSED SINGLE OF THE 3-CENT F GRILL PRINTED ON BOTH SIDES. A PHENOMENAL RARITY.
Engraved stamps printed on both sides usually have a poor impression on one side and a second, complete impression on the other. They probably occurred when a sheet was printed without proper moistening, which prevented the paper from picking up the ink in the recessed lines of the engraved plate.
Our census at https://siegelauctions.com/resources/census/us/scott/94d contains the unused block of 18 with parts of seven stamps printed on back (ex Whitman), this unused single and one used single. This single was separated from the block sometime in the past.

10c Yellow Green, F. Grill, Very Thin Paper (96 var). Original gum, lightly hinged, rich color on bright paper, clearly defined grill
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 10-CENT F GRILL ON VERY THIN PAPER.
The National Bank Note Co. undoubtedly made various attempts to improve grilling quality and efficiency through modifications in the process. Based on surviving stamps, it appears that one modification involved the use of very thin paper, which probably allowed two or more sheets to be grilled in one pass through the grilling device. The 1c (F), 2c (E and F), 3c (E and F), 5c (F), 10c (F), 12c (F) and 15c (F) are found on this very thin paper. They are scarce, particularly the 5c-15c values. In our experience, the Very Thin Paper variety comes in a distinct shade on semi-translucent paper. We have offered four original-gum examples of the 10c — we have offered two blocks of four which probably also qualify.
Ex Whitman. With 1994 P.F. certificate which does not mention the variety and 2009 P.F. certificate which does.
