Canal Zone, 1962, 4c Thatcher Ferry "Missing Bridge" Error, Silver Omitted (157a). Mint N.H. top right corner plate no. 168153 block of six, intense shade and impression on bright paper
VERY FINE. THE UNIQUE PLATE BLOCK OF THE THATCHER FERRY BRIDGE ERROR. STAMPS FROM ONLY ONE PANE OF 50 ARE AVAILABLE TO COLLECTORS. THIS PLATE BLOCK IS one of the most important canal zone rarities.
According to Canal Zone Stamps, one sheet, consisting of four panes of 50, was printed. Three panes were caught by postal authorities, while the fourth pane of 50 was sent to H.E. Harris & Co. as part of a larger order from the Canal Zone Philatelic Agency. At the same time this error was printed, the U.S. had issued the Dag Hammarskjold error in huge quantities. The Canal Zone authorities made plans to do the same, but they were successfully sued by H.E. Harris, and the larger printing never took place. The pane was broken up in 1969.
Offered to the market for the first time since our 1997 Rarities sale.

Hawaii, 1851, 13c Blue, "Hawaiian Postage" (3). Type I, the lefthand position in setting of two, ample margins to just touching, frameline complete all around, beautiful deep rich shade, canceled by sharp clear strike of red "Honolulu*U.S. Postage Paid*Apr. 26" circular datestamp, mounted on card for protection, small hole in "3" of center numerals, tiny sealed tear and slight brownish charring at lower left corner (possibly linking this stamp to the Dawson find), there is also a faint trace of what might be embossing from the papermaker's crest just below the "1" of the center numerals
VERY FINE APPEARANCE AND A BEAUTIFUL STAMP. ONLY SEVEN AVAILABLE OFF-COVER 13-CENT "HAWAIIAN POSTAGE" MISSIONARIES ARE CANCELED SOLELY WITH THE RED HONOLULU DATESTAMP.
Of the 51 used off-cover examples of the 13c "Hawaiian Postage" Missionary in our census at https://siegelauctions.com/resources/census/hawaii/scott/3, only ten were canceled in Honolulu by the circular datestamp without an obliterating cancel, including a copy in the Tapling Collection at the British Library and one small fragment on a piece that is recorded for academic purposes only. With the exception of the piece (census no. 3-I-PCE-134) from our Dr. Haikel sale, bearing a superb and sound stamp, the stamp offered here is far superior to most of the other known examples. The minor faults detailed in our description do not seriously detract from its appearance.
Ex Ferrary, Burrus and Honolulu Advertiser. Census no. 3-I-CAN-115. Brewster 3-I-Used-4. With 1963 and 1995 P.F. certificates. Scott value for an example with minor repair and normal black cancel.
